In 2004, he was first elected as a Member of Parliament to the 14th Lok Sabha from the Jabalpur constituency. During this first term, he served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture.
In 2009, he was re-elected for a second consecutive term to the 15th Lok Sabha and was appointed as a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence. He secured his third consecutive victory in 2014 and subsequently served as a Member of the Committee on Coal and Steel.
In April 2018, he was appointed as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Madhya Pradesh state unit. During his tenure, which lasted until 2020, he led the party with strong discipline and strategy, focusing on grassroots connection and effective electoral planning.
He was re-elected for his fourth consecutive term as Member of Parliament in 2019, also serving on the Committee on Ethics.
In 2023, Shri Rakesh Singh transitioned to state politics, successfully contesting and winning the Jabalpur West constituency to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
In December 2023, he was appointed as the Cabinet Minister for the Public Works Department (PWD) in the Government of Madhya Pradesh. During this period, he immediately began focusing on quality-driven governance and result-oriented project implementation, initiating reforms to build durable, safe, and future-oriented public infrastructure for the state.
